The Power of Aromatherapy: How Essential Oils Boost Our Wellbeing

Lady dropping bath salts into bath

Creating a cosy nook might be reason enough to light a candle and snuggle up on the sofa as we head into Autumn - my favourite season when the leaves change colour, and the light is softer. The scent and glow from candlelight can lift my mood, and certain smells and fragrances easily trigger specific memories and emotions.

The Autumn Equinox represents the balance between the seasons and the opportunity to prepare for the long, dark evenings. Nature puts on a spectacular show of colours, and I ramp up the heating and layer with soft, cosy throws and cushions. I place a few of my favourite scented candles in the fireplace and settle down to relax.

The power of aromatherapy is useful; whether I'm feeling down, have had a busy day, or need inspiration, I find that aromatherapy can boost my well-being. Lighting a candle with my favourite fragrance helps to relax, soothe, and calm my mind.

The flicker of a candle flame can be as meditative as a few well-timed deep breaths.

Candles have been around for thousands of years and have historically been popular in many religious rituals and ceremonies. Today's fragrant candles are used in our homes and Spa to help create a beautiful sensory space for us to meditate, relax, or change the mood depending on which fragrance we've chosen.

Lighting a candle or two when you're completing your evening skin-care routine or taking a bath allows you to focus on the time you've put aside for self-care. The scent of a fragrant candle helps with mindfulness.

We spend so much of our day and evenings hooked up to television or technology that the constant blue light that emits from iPads or mobiles can seriously disrupt sleep patterns. Try lighting a candle to help reset your natural sleep rhythm.

Lavender is the perfect herb for encouraging relaxation, whether in a candle, pillow spray or diffuser.

Bergamot is another delicious fragrance with a calming aroma. This lovely, uplifting scent - spicy with subtle floral notes; is perfect for home spa treats.

Cedarwood and Jasmine candles fill your home with an exquisite scent that's earthy & woody and complemented by Jasmine's fresh & floral notes.

Perfect for Autumn evenings are candles fragrant with cinnamon, orange, nutmeg and cedarwood - apparently, the scent of cedarwood allegedly keeps spiders at bay!

Candles have come a long way since their initial use. Today, they are used to celebrate different occasions, create a romantic mood, soothe the senses, and add a touch of glamour to home decor.

All our candles are made from eco-friendly soy wax and gently fragranced with luxury fragrance oils.

Trim the cotton wick to 5mm before lighting to obtain the best results. Allow the candle to burn for 2-4 hours, allowing the wax to melt evenly and avoid tunnelling.

Always snuff out the candle and allow it to cool before replacing the lid.

Light a candle to create a lovely warm glow, sit back and enjoy!
